There are a variety of reasons why someone may need to board a pet, if you’re going out of town, having home renovations, fumigating, spraying for bugs, painting, or anything else that might be harmful or especially stressful for your pet, we are happy to accommodate them for as long as you need.
We have fully staffed boarding available for multiple species, and each area has specialized care that goes into keeping them healthy, happy, and safe.
Each Species has specific requirements that must be met in order to be able to board them. To start with, ALL pets must be up to date on their annual exams with us.
All Mammals (Except for Chinchillas and Sugar gliders) are required to have a preemptive treatment for mites and lice to make sure that we aren’t bringing these transmissible parasites into the clinic.
Chinchillas and gliders need to have a fecal exam done to check for intestinal parasites.
Rabbits are required to be up to date on the RHD vaccine (For more info on what RHD is, click HERE)
Ferrets must be up to date with distemper and rabies vaccines unless medically exempt.
All reptiles must have a fecal exam to check for intestinal parasites.
Birds have a myriad of tests that may or may not need to be done depending on species. Call for more details.
Each of our boarders gets attention from our staff as they go about their days. First-time boarders or those who may be a bit more prone to stress are weighed daily so that we can make sure that they aren’t losing weight. We also track their food intake, and if we see anything concerning, we bring this to the doctor’s attention immediately. If it’s a concern to the doctor, we reach out to you, to let you know what is going on, and to discuss any diagnostics or treatment recommended.
We prefer for you to bring your pet’s normal food for their stay with us. Coming to a new place can make a pet very nervous, no matter the species, and having their normal food can help greatly in calming their nerves and keeping their GI tract in proper working order. If you are unable to bring their food along, there is an additional charge per day for us to provide their food, and we may not be able to get their specific brand.
You are also welcome to bring dishes for food and water, measuring cups, hides, blankets, toys and more, just make sure that when our reception gets them checked in that you are specific with what you have brought, so that we can get it back to you at the end of your pet’s stay! These are not required however, as we do have plenty of these supplies here that we can use for them and sanitize for the next pet.
Mammal Boarding
We have two separate boarding rooms for mammals, a predator room, and a prey room. The scent of a predator can cause severe stress to a prey species, so we have gone to great lengths to ensure that they are boarded in separate areas of our clinic.
The ”Rabbit Room”; named as such because
our most frequent species to board with us are rabbits. We also can board guinea pigs, and chinchillas in these stalls. But don’t worry! They aren’t stuck in those stalls the whole time they are here. Twice a day when we go in and clean out the enclosures, they are let out one at a time (Or in their enclosure group) to run around the room safely and say hello to each of our other boarders (On either side of the door of course!).
Predator Boarding; As mentioned, this room is set apart from the prey room so that they don’t cause undue stress on our prey species. We board our ferrets, hedgehogs, and rats in this room. As much as possible, we block sightlines between cages, but we rarely have more than two animals in this room at a time.
Bird Boarding
We can, and have boarded everything from finches, and budgies, to chickens and macaws. Whatever your feathered friend is, we can most likely make it work! (Call if you are concerned or have questions)
Reptile Boarding
The final boarding room we have is for reptiles. This room in general is kept at a slightly warmer temperature than the rest of the clinic to ensure that our scaled tenants are as comfortable as possible. If possible, we prefer you to bring their heat and UVB lamps, and food for their stay so that we can keep things as similar to their home environment as we can. If they are in a small enough tank, you can even bring the whole thing along! (We can only accommodate up to a 30 gallon usually.)
Other Animals
Depending on the circumstances, sometimes we can board pigs, fish, invertebrates, and other more uncommon species, just give us a call ahead of time and we will see what we can do.
